Jonas Salk's Impact on Medicine and Public Health

Jonas Salk is best known as the developer of the first successful vaccine against poliomyelitis, which demonstrated that noninfectious vaccines could prevent human viral illnesses, opening the door to novel modern vaccines. He also contributed to other fields of medicine and biology, philosophy, architecture and the history of medicine. This Jonas Salk Legacy website is dedicated to preserving and sharing the contributions of Jonas Salk to medicine, public health and social philosophy. We provide educational and research resources and license his intellectual property. Our objectives are to maximize the historical and educational value of his legacy, to advance the study of vaccinology (vaccine development and use), and to present a perspective on the evolution of human society.
