Jonas Salk's Impact on Medicine and Public Health
Jonas Salk is best known as the developer of the first successful vaccine against poliomyelitis, which demonstrated that noninfectious vaccines could prevent human viral illnesses, opening the door to novel modern vaccines. He also contributed to other fields of medicine and biology, philosophy, architecture and the history of medicine.
